About The Artist
Artist Statement
"My paintings are rooted in self-reflection, drawing from personal experiences like the fairytales I grew up with, Chinese traditions passed down by my mother, and my time as a classical ballet dancer. These influences come together in whimsical portrayals of nature, culture, and the human figure.
I love the freedom mixed media provides, allowing me to combine materials in ways that reflect the themes of my work. I often use oil paints paired with fabrics I collect during my travels in Asia—silks and brocades that are not only beautiful but rich with cultural meaning. The patterns and symbols within these fabrics inspire me and connect me to my heritage.
My background as a dancer also influences how I depict the figure, focusing on subtle expressions and movement, especially through the hands, shoulders, and textiles. Ultimately, I aim to share my personal perspective while inviting others to reflect on the unique, intricate tapestries formed by their own experiences."
