About The Artist

My work grows out of reflection on the experiences and influences that have shaped me, my love of vintage fashion and fairytales, my Chinese heritage and the traditions my mother shared with me, and memories from my years as a ballet dancer. I have often been called “head in the clouds,” and I’ve come to see that quality not as something to outgrow, but as an important part of how I experience the world. I cling to the beauty found around me and in ordinary moments, I am fascinated by the way our perspective and perception can shape what we notice, remember, and carry with us.

Through playful, dreamlike depictions of nature and the human form, I offer small glimpses of my own perspectives while celebrating the beauty I find in life. My work explores the idea that we each move through the world carrying our own collection of memories, influences, and stories, and that these shape the way we view and experience life.

I love incorporating textile in the same way memories and influences overlap in life. I often combine oil paint or watercolor with gold leaf and fabrics I have collected over the years, many while traveling and visiting family in Asia. These silks and brocades carry both cultural meaning and personal connection, helping me stay connected to a heritage that can sometimes feel far away. 

At the heart of my work is a desire to be see the magic. When the bad in the world feels overwhelming, I try to remind myself, and others through my paintings, that there is still so much magic to see and celebrate.
